Is there anything Andy Warhol did not do? In the Eighties he could be booked as a model, at the agencies Zoli and Ford Models. With the exhibition Adman: Warhol Before Pop coming to The Warhol in Pittsburgh next month, I thought it would be fun to have a look at the many ads in which Warhol himself was the subject, the model, engaged for his name, his status and his distinctive looks. Adman bis: Warhol After Pop. Enjoy!

Brilliant title, Guy! And a superb post illustrating another side of AW’s genius for
a. making money and
b. ensuring his name gets out there.
Interestingly, five of the ads (three for The Stat Store) picture Andy wearing a tie. In some of the photos, the tie knots are uneven. He wasn’t generally comfortable wearing a tie, and there are references to his inability to even tie one properly. One of his classmates at Carnegie Tech is on record as saying he never could tie a tie properly but would end up with one end below his waist and the other under his chin. He would then cut off the excess hang and save the cut end, eventually collecting a fair number of pieces of ties.
Once again, you have found an original way to present the many facets of Warhol’s work.
Cheers
Richard
